The biggest style icons of the 20th Century

1940's - Marlene Dietrich - glamourous and exotic.

Marlene was a German actress and singer, starring in Hollywood films such as Shanghai Express and Desire which portrayed her in a highly sexualised fashion. Her features were wonderfully exotic and she oozed glamour and sophistication.  She became a fashion icon to the top designers and once stated; "I dress for myself. Not for the image, not for the public, not for the fashion, not for men".

1950's - Audrey Hepburn - elegant, timeless beauty, the definition of grace.

Audrey Hepburn is one of the world's best known actresses; better known for her roles in movies such as Breakfast at Tiffany's and My Fair Lady and her humanitarian work.  She cemented herself as one of the world's biggest fashion icons of the 1950's and is still relevant today, transcending generations and growing in popularity over time.

"I decided, very early on, just to accept life unconditionally; I never expected it to do anything special for me, yet I seemed to accomplish far more than I had ever hoped. Most of the time it just happened to me without my ever seeking it."

1960's -Brigitte Bardot - sex appeal and blonde ambition.

Brigitte Bardot was a French model, singer, actress and animal rights activist.  Bardot popularised the 'bardot neckline', a wide open neck that exposes both shoulders.  She popularised bikini wear and brought the 'choucroute' into fashion - a beehive-like hairstyle.

1970's - Debbie Henry - rock chick.

Debbie Henry is an american singer-songwriter and actress, best known for being the lead singer of the punk-rock band Blondie!  With her two-tone blonde hair and rocker look, she quickly became a recognisable punk icon - her stage persona was one of cool sexuality and her style was grunge and street wise.  She was a very cool chick and one of the popular fashion icons of the 70's.

1980's - Madonna - one of the greatest pop acts of all time.

Need I say more?

1990's - Kate Moss - party girl.
